Trip to Lakshadweep - Spread over 32 sq. km area Lakshadweep is an island
of beauty and serenity. Lakshadweep is situated on the
banks of Arabian Sea. It has a unique treasure of coral
reefs. Population of Lakshadweep is nearly about 50,000.
They are simple people who earn their livelihood from
coconut cultivation, fishing and coir twisting. Lakshadweep
is a combination of green, blue and various other colors.
There are a huge number of coconut trees with green
leaves, blue sea and colorful sea animals and birds.
There is a belief that during 435 AD this land is invented
by the ship wrecked sailors.
Kiltan is a small island in Lakshadweep. It is 3km
long and 594 meters wide. Kiltan has a high storm area
where in 1995 a violent storm slapped and the coral
boulders have become a thin line. Some lagoons are narrow
and during low tide larger boats cannot enter in these
lagoons. Kiltan has a lime stone resource and this area
has dense trees. Summer is severely hot and people use
to sleep outside in cubicles made by cadjan leaves.
Suheli is a wonderful fishing destination for the
inhabitants of Lakshadweep. This island is situated
47 km south west of Kavaratti. It is at first seized
by Kavaratti islanders but after some time it was attached
to the rulers of Cannanore as a civic punishment.
The island of birds Pitti is also known as Pakshi
Pitti. It is a small island which acquires 1.21 hectares
of land. It is the reproduction place of Tern birds.
Their breeding time is January to March. It is a bird
sanctuary from 1962. Pitti is a rocky place direct landing
is impossible.
