The Rajyotsava Day or Kannada Rajyotsava is celebrated on 1st November every year to commemorate the formation of State of Karnataka
It was in 1956 that all the regions in south India
,which had Kannada as their main language was merged
into one state, Karnataka. The princely state of Mysore
was unified with Kannada speaking
zones of Mumbai and Chennai presidencies and Hyderabad
. Thus Karnataka was formed which continued to be called
Mysore after the princely state.
On Rajyotsava day a colorful procession is taken out
, also the picture of the Goddess Bhuvaneshwari
is mounted on a vehicle beautifully decorated and folk
artists perform their art while going in the procession.
Kannada Flags are hoisted at different strategic locations
,and different artists in the fields of drama,dance,classical
music etc are felicitated . People wear traditional
dress, men wear yellow and red turban while the women
wear saris colored yellow and red.
