Religious Destinations in Goa - The Se Cathedral Church is devoted to St. Catherine of Alexandria. This church is regarded to be the biggest in Asia. The Portuguese during their reign built this grand structure in the 16th century. The Cathedral stands tall towards the west of the great square called Terreiro de Sabaio and has its porch facing the east. Its gorgeous and striking patio is accessed by a flight of steps.  Places of Worship in Goa  and the architecture of the Se Cathedral adorns Portuguese style with a Tuscan marginal and Corinthian core. The church is approximately 250 ft in length and 181 ft in breath. The frontispiece stands at a height of 115 ft.

In the beginning there were two towers, on either side of the facade, but the one on the southern side got destroyed in 1776. The fallen bell tower was never renovated and has given the building an outstandingly charming look.

The Se Cathedral flaunts five massive bells. The existing tower houses a famous bell, 'Golden Bell' which is one of the largest in Goa. On account of its melodic tone, it has been dedicated in a Portuguese poem. The main altar is dedicated to St. Catherine of Alexandria. Old paintings on either sides of the altar represent scenes from her life and martyrdom.

The Se Cathedral is dedicated to St. Catherine, as it was on her feast day, 25th November 1510 that Alfonso de Albuquerque occupied Goa. Believers are fascinated to hear of the Cross of Miracles, which is placed in the cathedral, its earlier church having been damaged. People have had a vision of Christ on this cross and the rock on which it was found was said to spurt water while, today, the cross is gradually growing. Earlier, it was at Se Cathedral that the hallowed relics of St. Francis Xavier were shown to the public. This grand church draws lot of attention.
