This Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary is located 12-km from Paloncha, Khammam District. It is ideally set on the bank of Godavari River and creates a part of Dandakaranya forests in Khammam district. Stretching over an area of 635.4-sq km, the Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary received its name and identity from the river Kinnerasani. The river Kinnerasani cuts this sanctuary in two parts and finally merges into the Godavari River.
Being in this wildlife sanctuary you can truly bask in exotic species of fauna and flora. In the Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary you will find animals like Cheetal, Black Bucks, Chinkaras, Chousinghas, Sambhars, Wild Boars, Gaurs, Wild Dog, Hyena, Jackals, Sloth Bear, Panthers and Tigers. At this elegant sanctuary not only animals but the beautiful species of birds will also catch your attention. Some of popular birds' species that you will witness here include; Peafowl, Jungle Fowl, Quails, Partridges, Doves, Ducks, Teals, Spoonbills, Nuktas and Open bill stork. Apart from these, if you want to catch the sight of dangerous reptiles like Python, Cobra, Kraite and Vipers then Kinnerasani Lake is an ideal place.
Along with being an ideal home to animals and birds, the Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary also features dry deciduous mixed type forests with teak, bamboo and terminals. Other species that can also be found in this sanctuary include Maddi, Yepi, Yegissa, Sommi Thandra, Bandaru, Amla, Mango and Tendu.
However, there are other main attractions also which can be seen in the sanctuary. These attractions are; Deer Park, Kinnerasani Dam and Reservoir with Jaladrushyam Guest house. In fact you can also relish the sight of perennial springs such as ‘Togus' flowing through this sanctuary along with Kinnerasani Rallavagu.
