Located about 150 kms from the capital city of Hyderabad, Nagarjunasagar has a rich and interesting past. NAGARJUNAKONDA – The Nagarjunakonda is an exotic island that rises from the artificial lake of the Nagarjunasagar Dam. The Buddhist Museum found here houses some important Buddhist relics that were stumbled upon during excavations. The archaeologists have ascertained that these relics can be traced back to the third century AD.
ETHIOPATALA WATERFALL – Situated at a distance of 15 miles from the Nagarjunasagar, this is a gorgeous waterfall that has guest house facilities for the tourists.
RAJIV GANDHI WILDLIFE SANCTUARY – This is the largest and one of the most important wildlife sanctuaries in Andhra Pradesh. The sanctuary also incorporates a Tiger Reserve. Apart from providing asylum to the majestic tigers the sanctuary is also a safe refuge for birds, reptiles and a variety of other animals.
HOW TO REACH NAGARJUNASAGAR
By Road – Regular buses ply to Nagarjunasagar from Hyderabad, Guntur and Vijayawada.
By Rail – Macherla is the nearest railway station which means you have to cover a distance of about 25 kms in order to reach Nagarjunasagar.
By Air – The international airport is in Hyderabad which is 150 kms away from the place.
